via xoverboard, Andrew Sullivan (lifetime winner of far and away the greatest number of Claude Rains Memorial Gambling Awareness Awards ever awarded), thinks Steve Gilliard is a racist.

At first I thought, hell no, because Steve and I have had some perfectly pleasant conversations, and he and Jenn have been guests in my home (coming from someone who is of both irish and italian descent, that's a fairly serious statement, because we're pretty particular about who we invite to meet our families) and he's been wonderful with my daughter, who is a freckle-faced redhead (I swear I owe that man hours and hours of sleep for convincing that child to make her own breakfast. She even makes mine sometimes)

I discover, however, that Mr. Sullivan actually believes that Steve harbors racist feelings against individuals of african descent, specifically because he disapproves of Mr. Steele, the Lieutenant Governor of Maryland (and a star amongst that terribly elite group, Republicans of african descent)

So now I'm torn, because I know of at least one incident of outreach from Mr. Steele's campaign to the african-american community in Baltimore

And certainly I know how much the southern strategy has weighed on Mr Sullivan, insofar as he had no qualms about wholeheartedly supporting Republicans right down the line until they discriminated against a group he belongs to.

So I guess this is one of those things where you have to go with the preponderance of the evidence, and I would say that the outcome of that form of analysis is that Andrew Sullivan can kiss my ass.

Just saying.

Apparently, Steve lost some advertising from the Kaine campaign today because of this. I don't know who to be angrier at, Sullivan and his overzealous friends or the Kaine campaign.

eh. This is apparently the wind of the moment. I'm already deleting tendentious right-wing rants from comments.
